This first verse of chapter twelve is a little difficult in the original Greek language, that is, the construction in the Greek language. It doesnt translate well into English. They did the best they could.It is not expedient (They have translated) for me doubtless to glory. Basically, what Paul is saying is that you are more or less forcing me to boast or to glory, yet it is not really of any value. So, he has as we have mentioned before, in these last chapters, he is dealing with the detractors, who had followed him in Corinth. Paul had founded the church there. He had gone into uncharted territories with the gospel, a very strong church was raised up in Corinth. Paul spent a couple of years there ministering to the church. When he moved on, there were false teachers that came in. And they began to denigrate Paul, challenging his apostleship, challenging the gospel that he had preached, the gospel of grace. They were seeking to put their own trips on the people. They were seeking to bring them under the law and thus Paul is sort of defending though he said it really isnt necessary nor should it be necessary. Hes defending his call to be an apostle of Jesus Christ. Hes defending the gospel that he preached to them.
