Surprisingly what drives him onward in his quest to annihilate Israel is his belief in prophecy.Ahmadinejad believes in a radical Shiite ideology, with a world view that comes from his belief in the imminent return of the Islamic Messiah called "The Mahdi".Under this world view, the Muslim nations of the world will rule the entire planet. Ahmadinejad believes that the Mahdi will appear on the world scene in his lifetime. This belief is what is behind his drive to destroy Israel and wipe the entire nation off the face of the earth.Israel is called by Ahmadinejad; "The little satan". The United States is referred to as "The Great Satan." According to Ahmadinejad, the Muslim Messiah cannot come into the world scene until Israel is first destroyed. Many ask whether or not Iran will launch an attack against Israel. Because Ahmadinejad believes the Mahdi is waiting for Israel to be destroyed, it is a certainty that we can expect an all out attack on Israel by Iran, in the near future.
